VAN REYBROUCK Pieter, Gamayun. Chapel of the Brigittines, Brussels. Nea Alkemia, 1997. Printed in 200 copies, of which 20 numbered and drawn by Irène Philips.

About forty works endeavor to translate the mythical and legendary patterns that certain European poets called upon at the dawn of the 20th century. Tragic and prophetic visions that bear witness to the resurgence of archetypes as a way of sensing the disenchantment of the new era.

In their scenographic space, sculptures and paintings are revealed as in an archaic Mystery. A dancer officiates at this ritual – like Gamayun, the fabulous bird, listening to the distress to come.

“On the infinite mirror of the waters
Prophesy and sing the bird
He announces the Tartar yoke,
Hunger, fire, dark years…”
Alexander Blok, Gamayun

Exhibition organized by the City of Brussels in 1997 with the collaboration of the asbl Nea Alkemia and the asbl Bellone Brigittines and the support of the companies Stand Image, Ludofiscus and the Librairie Hervé Renard.

"HOLOVERSUM is a new word that has its origins in cosmology.

It expresses the unity of the infinitely small and the infinitely large in a mutual penetration by which the larger is in the smaller and the smaller contains the larger."
